Congratulations to Kadelyn Burgess, a Crew Carwash employee and Tri-West High School student in Lizton, Ind. for her selection as this year’s Larry Harrell Scholarship recipient.

“Working in the car wash industry has taught me a lot of things,” Burgess said. “It’s been amazing to learn and branch out when I’m given the opportunities to grow in my job. Mostly, I’ve learned what it’s like to work with so many different people.”

Burgess will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward her continued education. She was selected to receive the scholarship due to her high school academic performance, school honors and her community involvement.

Her volunteer efforts are especially valued by Sheltering Wings, a domestic violence shelter in Danville, Ind., that helps provide a safe place for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

“Kadelyn’s leadership skills are above and beyond,” said Sheltering Wings Education and Outreach Coordinator Melissa Echerd. “She has been instrumental in the development of our Youth Council and her innovative ideas and positive outlook will be an asset for her future endeavors.”

Burgess is involved in Student Council, Model UN, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Teens That Talk, Sheltering Wings, Spanish Club, Student Mentoring and National Honors Society — all while maintaining a 4.14 GPA.

Burgess plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the Fall.

“No matter where my life takes me, working in the car wash industry (most specifically at Crew) has helped me develop workplace and people skills that will help me thrive wherever I end up going,” Burgess said.

The Larry Harrell Scholarship, created in honor of car wash operator Larry Harrell by his peers, has been recognizing young adults working in the car wash industry since 2000.

The scholarship is given out annually. Please contact Megan Clark, ICA Membership Director, mclark@carwash.org with any questions.
